Fionna Duncan
Fionna Duncan is one of Britain’s most original jazz stylists. In a 45 year
career, she has developed her skills to the point where she can get into a
groove with the best or break your heart with a ballad. She has a voice that has
lived and it invites to experience life with her.
She stepped onto the national stage with The Clyde Valley Stompers touring
extensively throughout Great Britain and Europe appearing at the most
prestigious venues including London’s Royal Festival Hall. In 1962 Fionna joined
Forrie Cairns and The Clansmen and released among many others a single Salty Dog
which made the top twenty.
Between 1964 and 1970 Fionna worked in the West End at leading nightclubs then
left full time singing for more than a decade. She was tempted back in the 80’s
touring Europe and U.S.A. with ‘Mike Hart’s Society Syncopaters’ and ‘The George
Penman Band’.
Her meetings with jazz educators including Jamie Aebersold, Wynton Marsalis and
Madeline Eastman inspired her to create Scotland’s only workshop for young
singers. Her first workshop was held during The 1996 Glasgow International Jazz
Festival since then she has run workshops all over the country and transformed
jazz singing in Scotland. In fact some participants say that it has changed
their lives given them confidence and lifted their self-esteem.
Fionna plans to pass on her experience of over 45 years as a ‘Professional Jazz
Vocalist’ with the help of her devoted team of professional tutors and
musicians.
And she has become the most exciting of Scotland’s singers, with experience and
daring, both of which she brings to the Scottish Jazz All Stars
